If this is what is being depicted, then I afraid the author did not really research this situation thouroughly enough. A person paralised at a point where it affected one's bowl movement would have been cathetered into a bag. If constipated one would have been given a suppository, or an enema. The common sense thing for the girls to do would have been just calling in a nurse and leaving the room. I know, because in 2013 I had major lower back surgery to releave spinal cord intrusion cause by a collapsed disc affecting my right leg. I had to relearn to walk and use the toilet as the recovery physio, because just from them stirring around that area of my spin had made me temporarily paralised. It took three months of that physio to get me some what back to normal and I had to endour a week and a half with catheters up both ends.
