When asked how he felt when he had to switch to drawing Uncle Scrooge adventures, Barks sighed, "It was a relief. I was beginning to find it hard to find something new for Donald to do. Suddenly I had another character on whom I could keep expanding for several years. It was like having a new plant coming out of the ground that you could nourish into growing a big lot of tomatoes. And I had the old plant, too: I could always justify anything that Scrooge was going to do by placing Donald in the situation with him" (June 24, 1984 Hamilton/Blum/Andrae interview).
